Mujeres Unidas is led by a gov­ern­ing board com­posed of a pres­i­dent, vice-president, sec­re­tary, trea­surer, and a coor­di­na­tor of the com­mu­nity cen­ter and day­care and a project man­ager and project leader. The orga­ni­za­tion is directed by a con­sti­tu­tion that dic­tates the gov­ern­ing board and gen­eral assem­bly roles and respon­si­bil­i­ties as well as the elec­tion process and rules for par­tic­i­pa­tion.   The orga­ni­za­tion receives tech­ni­cal assis­tance in the form of lead­er­ship, man­age­ment, and orga­ni­za­tional train­ing from sev­eral peo­ple out­side of the community.

Pro­gram Man­ager: Sab­rina Karim– Sab­rina was a Ful­bright Scholar to Peru.  She also has a Master’s from the Uni­ver­sity of Oxford and a Bachelor’s degree from George­town Uni­ver­sity.  She has exten­sive expe­ri­ence work­ing on women and children’s issues as well as com­mu­nity orga­niz­ing. She is cur­rently pur­su­ing a Ph.D. at Emory University.

 

Pro­gram Leader: Car­o­line Glad­stone– Car­rie is the direc­tor of new project devel­op­ment in the Office of Advance­ment at George­town Uni­ver­sity.  She pre­vi­ously worked for Deloitte Con­sult­ing and grad­u­ated from George­town Uni­ver­sity.  She has exten­sive expe­ri­ence in strate­gic plan­ning, pro­gram devel­op­ment and man­age­ment, and orga­ni­za­tional training.

 

Pres­i­dent: Placida Cor­dova de Cor­dova– Placida is orig­i­nally from Piura, Peru.  She is the mother of eight grown chil­dren and has been active in the community’s “Vaso de Leche” pro­gram for sev­eral years.  She began orga­niz­ing the group through birth­day par­ties for women in the community.

 

Vice Pres­i­dent: Felisa Quispe Ortiz — Felisa is orig­i­nally from Puno, Peru.  She is the mother of two chil­dren and has been active in the com­mu­nity by par­tic­i­pat­ing in fundrais­ers, and her daughter’s pre-school activities.

Sec­re­tary: Eliz­a­beth Chavez Alalaya — Eliz­a­beth is orig­i­nally from Caja­marca, Peru.  She is the mother of one daugh­ter and is a com­mu­nity leader.  She was never able to fin­ish school, but has exten­sive expe­ri­ence with keep­ing notes and direct­ing meet­ings.   

Trea­surer: Car­olina Mer­cedes Rodas Fal­coni — Car­olina is orig­i­nally from Lima.  She is the mother of two chil­dren and has exten­sive expe­ri­ence in the com­mu­nity as trea­surer for var­i­ous pro­grams. She also has train­ing in the mil­i­tary and as a nurse, but was never given cer­ti­fi­ca­tion for her studies. 

Coor­di­na­tor of the Day­care: Vanessa Soledad Velasquez Cuse– Vanessa is orig­i­nally from Ica, Peru.  She is the mother of two chil­dren. She has exten­sive expe­ri­ence as a pre-school teacher and work­ing with dis­abled kids.  She has taught pre-school in the com­mu­nity for over three years.

Tech­ni­cal Assis­tant: Yolanda Flo­res Quispe- Yolanda is a trained lawyer in Lima, Peru.  She has done exten­sive work lit­i­gat­ing prop­erty rights and non­profit cases and serves on the board of sev­eral NGOs.  She helped the women reg­is­ter their orga­ni­za­tion and buy their property.
