Bios
Mujeres Unidas is led by a governing board composed of a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and a coordinator of the community center and daycare and a project manager and project leader. The organization is directed by a constitution that dictates the governing board and general assembly roles and responsibilities as well as the election process and rules for participation. The organization receives technical assistance in the form of leadership, management, and organizational training from several people outside of the community.
Program Manager: Sabrina Karim– Sabrina was a Fulbright Scholar to Peru. She also has a Master’s from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University. She has extensive experience working on women and children’s issues as well as community organizing. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Emory University.
Program Leader: Caroline Gladstone– Carrie is the director of new project development in the Office of Advancement at Georgetown University. She previously worked for Deloitte Consulting and graduated from Georgetown University. She has extensive experience in strategic planning, program development and management, and organizational training.
President: Placida Cordova de Cordova– Placida is originally from Piura, Peru. She is the mother of eight grown children and has been active in the community’s “Vaso de Leche” program for several years. She began organizing the group through birthday parties for women in the community.
Vice President: Felisa Quispe Ortiz — Felisa is originally from Puno, Peru. She is the mother of two children and has been active in the community by participating in fundraisers, and her daughter’s pre-school activities.
Secretary: Elizabeth Chavez Alalaya — Elizabeth is originally from Cajamarca, Peru. She is the mother of one daughter and is a community leader. She was never able to finish school, but has extensive experience with keeping notes and directing meetings.
Treasurer: Carolina Mercedes Rodas Falconi — Carolina is originally from Lima. She is the mother of two children and has extensive experience in the community as treasurer for various programs. She also has training in the military and as a nurse, but was never given certification for her studies.
Coordinator of the Daycare: Vanessa Soledad Velasquez Cuse– Vanessa is originally from Ica, Peru. She is the mother of two children. She has extensive experience as a pre-school teacher and working with disabled kids. She has taught pre-school in the community for over three years.
Technical Assistant: Yolanda Flores Quispe- Yolanda is a trained lawyer in Lima, Peru. She has done extensive work litigating property rights and nonprofit cases and serves on the board of several NGOs. She helped the women register their organization and buy their property.
